SIPHO SIGASA - SSS AUCTIONEERS

We love having members who are passionate for the Auctioneering Industry, and Sipho Sigasa is one of those members. In fact, he is so passionate that he started a brand-new company just to ensure his Auctioneering business was focused on exactly that – Auctioneering with passion. We spoke with him about his company, SSS Auctioneers, and found out a little more about what the Auctioneering Industry entails for him.

Q: Tell us about your background

A: I was born in the Free State, and I founded SMS Auctioneers where I partnered with somebody who did not have the passion of auctioneering. I then decided to open my own company – SSS Auctioneers.

Q: When was your company established?

A: SSS Auctioneers was established in 2004.

Q: How many years have you been involved in the Auctioneering Industry?

A: I have been involved in the Auctioneering Industry for 20 years.

Q: How did you get involved in Auctioneering?

A: I used to buy from auctions, and this is where my love of being an auctioneer developed.

Q: Who have some of your mentors been?

A: I attended The South African College of Auctioneering, where Hedley Harris became my mentor. I am also inspired by Chico da Silva, who was the founder and managing member of Consolidated Auction Group.

Q: What are some of the challenges you have faced?

A: The biggest challenge is when buyers on an auction form a ring and push prices and other items, but they end up not paying.

Q: What is your specialty?

A: I specialise in livestock auctions and other movables such as motor vehicles, earthmoving and office equipment.

Q: What area(s) does your company operate in?

A: I operate mainly in the Free State and Lesotho.

Q: What is your company’s biggest accomplishment thus far?

A: Being awarded a 3-year Public Works contract and selling for 10 municipalities in the Free State.
