Llewan Delport - Vendu Cape Auctioneers
One thing a national association in any industry hopes for is members who are inspired to take the industry to new heights, and who are dedicated to keeping the industry relevant and adapting it to the current times. One company working hard to keep up with the technological advancements as well as adapting to challenges we face here in South Africa, such as loadshedding, is Vendu Cape Auctioneers.
Vendu Cape Auctioneers was founded in 2003 by Llewan Delport, who completed his Honours in BCom in Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management at the University of Cape Town and worked part-time in the Auctioneering Industry while still in high school. He continued while at university. He then went on to study under Hedley Harris at the South African College of Auctioneers. Feeling that he could add a youthful data-oriented touch to the Industry after being involved for 20 years, he started his own company.
“I attended the SA College of Auctioneering under Hedley Harris, who taught me the fundamentals needed to get started in Auctioneering. Since then, we have moved to a turnkey online solution taking those key learnings and turning them into a user-friendly experience on our platform,” Llewan said, crediting Hedley Harris as his mentor.
When asked about how the journey has been so far, Llewan said; “currently, the Industry is changing with an influx of technologies such as VR, cloud computing and 360 cameras etc – I am excited to see how this can further evolve the industry”. He also stated that they “are adapting our service offering to the ever-changing load shedding stages, which affect different locations, cell phone signal strength and fibre broadband outages,” which has been a challenge they are tackling head-on.
Specialising in Mining and Earthmoving as well as Government institutions, Llewan is all for modernising the operations of his business. “From a back-end point of view, I enjoy working with an excellent development team to streamline technologies and modernise how we operate,” he said. This is also one of his favourite parts of being in the Auction Industry. He went on to say that it has always surprised him to see how buyers’ logical views on a sale are quickly superseded by the emotional.
One of the company’s biggest accomplishments so far has been running a turnkey online auction process for a contract miner, Basil Read, which resulted in 13.9 million ZAR generating revenue.
Operating in the North West, Gauteng, Western Cape and Northern Cape, Vendu Cape Auctioneers is looking to strengthen their current footprint and capabilities in the current economic climate here in South Africa.
We wish them all the best as they grow their business, tackling the new technological advances and challenges facing us all in these modern times.
